Instructor Brings Medical Experience to Body, Mind & Spirit Courses

Credit-Free Programs Instructor Kay Lani LeBoulluec, Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Vermont, is a published medicinal research chemist, and a yoga therapist and holistic healer with the Saint Francis Hospital’s Integrative Medicine department.

She devotes her energy to exploring alternative therapies that complement traditional approaches for treatment. “Some of the complementary services I offer to promote health and well-being through balance and improve patients’ quality of life include specialized yoga therapy, stress management, sound relaxation, meditation, Tong Ren, and Reiki,” LeBoulluec said.
She brings this experience to several Body, Mind & Spirit courses at MCC, including “Full Moon Gong Relaxation with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation,” scheduled for Saturday, November 16, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the college’s main campus (refer to CRN 31772 for registration). The course fee is $30.

In the course, LeBoulluec leads students through a Kundalini yoga session to prepare for deep relaxation and potential healing while using sound vibrations. “Kundalini yoga comes from India and is a more than 5,000 year old practice in which healing can be experienced, especially during extended deep relaxation accompanied with the massaging vibrations of a gong during the energy of the full moon,” LeBoulluec said. “It is a gentle yoga that anyone can do. If you do not feel comfortable sitting on the floor, it is perfectly fine and effective to sit in a chair during your practice.”

LeBoulluec also holds a master’s degree in communications from Quinnipiac and more than a dozen certifications in yoga, Reiki and Qigong. She applies her training and landmark research in yoga for life threatening diseases to rehabilitation for cardiac, cancer, MS, HIV, fibromyalgia and diabetes patients. Other areas of concentration include Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans, PTSD, Alzheimer’s disease and Ayurveda.

A number of courses taught by her will also be offered in upcoming terms at MCC. “Yoga for All Levels” will be held during the Winter 2013-14 intersession. It will meet eight successive Wednesdays, starting January 29, 2014, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. (Refer to CRN 11752.)

Enrolling in and completing courses through MCC means students have access to hands-on experts in the field for instruction, as well as the added benefit of an official college transcript that serves as a record of their education.
