Gena Glickman, President of MCC, Honored as Woman Business Leader of 2012

Manchester, Connecticut (April 23, 2012)…Dr. Gena Glickman, President of Manchester Community College, has been selected as one of eight incredible woman business leaders for 2012 by the Hartford Business Journal. Honorees are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges.

Dr. Glickman is the fifth and first woman president of Manchester Community College, beginning her tenure on June 20, 2008. Previously, she was the Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Student Development at Elgin Community College, a large comprehensive community college west of Chicago.

In the nomination process, Dr. Glickman was described as an individual who knows how to bring people together, form a strong team, create a unique vision and guide them to deliver a final product that exceeds expectations. These leadership attributes have been instrumental in positioning the college as a center for high quality learning, cultural offerings, community events and a valued business partner in boosting the area’s economic development.

When informed of her selection for this honor, Dr. Glickman noted that “the most significant work leaders do is to build a think tank and an environment where people are willing to challenge ideas and decisions. You need your organization’s best minds to meet your strategic goals.” Her advice to other women who aspire to leadership positions is to believe in yourself and your potential. “Be competitive with yourself, not your colleagues, and have fun,” she said.
