MANCHESTER, CT –Emmanuel Amingwa made ten saves for Benjamin Franklin IT (7-4-2) and Hami Kara (Wethersfield) made seven for Manchester CC (14-1-1) as the two NJCAA Division III rivals battled to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon in Manchester.
MCC came into the game with eight straight victories but turned in its fourth consecutive shutout and 13th of the season. MCC beat Benjamin Franklin 2-0 on September 26th in Somerville, MA.
“This was a playoff team that we played today,” MCC Coach Jim Insinga said of Benjamin Franklin’s talented team. “We could have scored a few goals, they had their opportunities, but it was a defensive battle.”
Scoring opportunities were limited, but each team had several over the 110 minute contest, which was played on a slippery field during scattered showers.
“Outstanding goalkeeping at both ends and it was basically a war of the defenses today,” Insinga said.
MCC will host the NJCAA Division III region 21 Tournament next weekend. Pairings and game times will be announced late Monday night.
