Franklin, Pierced….Cougars Drop Final Games of Regular Season

RINDGE, NH –Franklin Pierce’s University JVs handed Manchester Community College its third and fourth straight losses Sunday by 10-9 and 16-15 scores at Dr. Arthur & Martha Pappas Field on Sunday.

Franklin Pierce rightfielder Derek Suess hit a two-run home run to tie the first game at 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh then drove delivered Daryl Jeannetti from second base with game winner on an 0-2 pitch with two out in the bottom of the ninth.

MCC (25-21) fell behind 9-0 after two innings in the second game, and were down 16-6 after five innings, but Alec Brown (Montville) hit his team leading fourth homer and Chris Rivera (New Britain) had a double and triple in the Cougars nine-run sixth, cutting FP’s lead to one run.

A. J. Lowers (Newington) was 6 for 9 on the day with five runs scored and three RBI. Lowers pitched a scoreless seventh inning in his first collegiate outing, combing for 2.1 shutout inning with fellow position players Andrew Tremley (Bristol) and Kevin Wallace (Groton).

The second sweep of the weekend concluded the regular season for the Cougars, who played 46 games in 61 days starting on March 2nd. The Region 21, Division III Tournament begins Friday (May 7) in Holyoke. Pairings and game times for the four-team, double elimination tournament are TBD.

On Saturday, NJCAA Division I Monroe College (23-14) ended MCC’s five-game win streak with a doubleheader sweep in Felix Lopez and Greggory Downing threw complete games for Monroe. Marcos Majeda hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs in game two for Monroe. Lowers had three singles in six at-bats for MCC.

Friday night, Kevin Wodatch (Wallingford) had a three-run homer, a three-run triple and eight RBI as MCC pounded ECSU’s Sub- Varsity 15-3 in Willimantic. Wodatch also walked twice with the bases loaded. Starter Kevin Madera (Newington) improved to 7-0 on the season.
