Now Showing at the Dehn Gallery: Drawn Together — Opening Reception and Artist Q&A, September 9
Manchester, Conn. (September 1, 2016) — Drawn Together draws together artists who work conventionally and artists who push the envelope of what drawing is and can be. The exhibition, which runs through October 22 at the Dehn Gallery at the Manchester Community College Arts and Education Center, also known as MCC on Main, features contemporary artists David Curcio, Kerri Gaudelli, Ed Hogan, Linda King, Maggie Nowinski and Jennifer Wroblewski, who celebrate the joy of drawing and underscore the importance of drawing as a daily artistic practice.
A reception and artist Q&A will be held Friday, September 9, 6 to 8 p.m. Both the reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
Drawn Together Artists:
David Curcio employs simple, direct drawing with embroidery to create deeply biographical and diarist drawings. Imagery is accompanied by emotive text (invented or derived/paraphrased from novels, songs and other sources) displayed prominently or whispered in scrawls during spontaneous moments of melodrama and sentimentality.
Kerri Gaudelli creates drawing installations using multi-dimensional perspective imagery with string and charcoal. Her installations challenge the definition and appearance of conventional drawing.
Ed Hogan creates large, humorous drawings of toy space ships. His color pencil work is painstakingly precise in contrast to the fun, colorful subject manner.
Linda King scribbles fantasy abstracts with Sakura ink on Jaipur paper. Each small drawing is like a precious jewel with black background and silver ink.
Maggie Nowinski creates large-scale pen and ink drawings that are detailed mash-ups of abstract biological forms. Nowinski will also show a “drawing diorama.”
Jennifer Wroblewski creates her drawings through blindfolded performance with amazing and extreme results. Her work will be featured in the video room and on the front wall of the Dehn Gallery. Wroblewski also will be visiting the gallery September 29 to give a demonstration of her process.
