CT Higher Education Community Service Awards Honors Manchester Community College Professor

Manchester, Connecticut ( April 5, 2012)…Sandra Jenkins, professor of Hospitality Management at Manchester Community College, will be recognized at the annual Connecticut Higher Education Community Service Awards. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Central Connecticut State College to recognize volunteer service in the higher education community.

Professor Jenkins, a resident of Tolland, was responsible for starting the Supported Education Program in Culinary Arts at MCC. Active in the Connecticut Chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), her interest has focused on the ACF Chef and Child Foundation program, which promotes an awareness of proper nutrition in preschool and elementary school children across all economic segments. Because of her work with ACF and its Chef and Child foundation, Professor Jenkins was named ACF Connecticut Chapter Chef of the Year in 2010.

Sandra has a bachelor of science degree from Keene State College and a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. One of her responsibilities has been her work with An Evening of Fine Wines, the college’s premier fund raising event. She was responsible for orchestrating the production and service of food for this gala event.

The Connecticut Higher Education Community Service Awards recognize volunteer service in the higher education community. Connecticut’s higher education institutions impact communities through service programs implemented and volunteered by students, student groups and educators.
