Cougars Turn in Seventh Shutout in 3-0 Win Over CCRI
Daniel Boateng (East Hartford) scored two minutes into the game as MCC beat CCRI 3-0 Thursday afternoon in Manchester. Hami Kara (Wethersfield) made eight saves as MCC (8-1) turned in its seventh shutout of the season. Mariusz Kurzatkowski (Southington) and Shavar Duncan (Montego Bay, JA) also scored for MCC.
“This team matched up pretty well with us in the first half,” MCC Head Coach Jim Insinga said. “But our defense held and we started to get quality shots in the second half and it finally broke open.”
MCC took a 1-0 lead into halftime and Kurzatkowski made it 2-0 with his fifth goal of the year off a Giuseppe Panajia (Glastonbury) serve in the 55th minute.
“That second goal was the one that put us clear,” Insinga said.
Duncan’s goal, which bent the twine at the top right corner of the net with two minutes to play, was the icing.
“Some people may not have noticed, but Kenny’s (Rossignol/Manchester) pass made that goal possible,” Duncan said of the Cougars sophomore defender.
Tony Ettorre (Plainville) played the final 25 minutes in goal for MCC and made one key save to preserve the shutout. Frank Busumbru (South Windsor) and Lamine Toupou (Hartford) also had assists for MCC.
Jason Oliviera made three saves for CCRI (4-4).
