Cougars limp home after eighth straight road game
WILLIMANTIC, CT – Eastern Connecticut State University’s JV jumped out to an 8-0 lead and beat MCC 8-4 Thursday night in Willimantic.
The game marked MCC’s eighth straight on the road in as many days and left the Cougars (6-7-1). MCC, who dropped is below the .500 mark for the first time since 2007, shut out the baby Warriors on consecutive days (1-0 on March 10 and 3-0 on March 12) at Cheney Tech to start the 2009 season.
Peter Burgio (Bolton) kept his eight game hitting streak alive when he doubled home Alan Fredriksson (Torrington) in the eighth inning. James McGowan (South Windsor) and A. J. Lowers (Newington) each had a pair of singles and Dan Nelson (Glastonbury) finished the game with two hitless innings.

On Wednesday, the Cougars travel to Brentwood, NY – their fourth trip out of New England in six days – and lost 6-5 to Suffolk County CC – Grant in a game that was played in frigid, windy conditions on Long Island and called due to darkness after seven innings. Heavy rain moved in to the area ten minutes after the game was called.
MCC was 2-5-1 over the eight game span, starting on March 25th in West Warwick, RI with a 10-2 loss to CC of Rhode Island.
Burgio was 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and a two-run single in the fifth. Juan Bisono (New Britain) homered in the first inning while Lowers went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an rbi.
Starting pitcher Mike Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks) was playing his first game since returning from a two-week training mission in Mineral Springs, Texas with his Air National Guard unit. The right hander pitched five innings and took the loss, but three of the six runs he gave up were unearned.
The Cougars return home this weekend, hosting a pair of doubleheaders on campus. Saturday, Northern Essex visits for a Region XXI, Division III double header scheduled to start at noon and on Sunday, Suffolk County- Selden comes to Manchester for a noon double header.
Suffolk-Grant improved to 18-4.
