College Computer Laboratory Dedicated To Banking Leader

Surprise Presentation Today Made in Honor of Rockville Bank’s Betty R. Sullivan

Manchester, CT – May 17, 2007 – A computer laboratory in the Rockville Bank Foundation Computer Center at Manchester Community College has been named for Betty R. Sullivan, who recently ended her term as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rockville Financial, Inc., the holding company for Rockville Bank. The announcement was made at a special event at the college, and was a total surprise to Mrs. Sullivan, a longtime Manchester, Conn. resident.

“We are thrilled to dedicate this computer laboratory to Betty Sullivan,” explained William J. McGurk, President and CEO of Rockville Bank. “She has been a longtime member of the Rockville Bank family, and has 40 years of impressive experience in the banking industry, both as a banker, an Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors at Rockville Bank. Her commitment to professional excellence is reflected in the academic and technological quality of this wonderful learning institution.”

Computer Lab B207 contains 28 Macintosh work stations, laser printers and a state-of-the-art instructor station. The lab is open to students year-round and is occasionally used for classes, as well. The lab is staffed at all times, and students can obtain assistance from the monitors as needed. The lab computers are connected to the campus local area network, as well as to the Connecticut Community College System wide-area network, which provides access to the Internet.

The Rockville Bank Foundation Computer Center comprises 11 computer laboratories on the second floor of the College’s Learning Resource Center. In addition to six multi-purpose computer classroom/labs, the space includes a language lab, a distance learning lab, two open personal computer labs and the newly-named Macintosh lab. In that area alone, students have access to over 300 computers. The Learning Resource Center houses the College library, faculty offices, health science labs, and the Division of Continuing Education.

In 2005, the Rockville Bank Community Foundation made the second largest gift ever to the College from a local business. It was placed in the Foundation’s permanent endowment account, where it is being held in perpetuity; a portion of its investment income each year is available for spending to benefit MCC’s people and programs. The earnings on the principal of the endowment are used to support scholarships, teaching positions and program enhancements. A team of professional money managers, whose goal it is to achieve a fair rate of return with minimal risk, invests the College’s endowment fund.

This is the second of three rooms within the Rockville Bank Foundation Computer Center named for individuals by the Bank. The first was named for Dr. Albert Kerkin, Jr., former Chairman of the Board of Rockville Financial, at the time of the gift.

Rockville Bank Community Foundation, Inc. is a charitable foundation that contributes to the communities that Rockville Bank’s 19 branches serve: Coventry; East Hartford; East Windsor; Ellington; Enfield; Glastonbury; Manchester; Rockville; Somers; South Glastonbury; South Windsor; Suffield; Tolland; and Vernon; and four Big Y supermarket locations. A new full-service office will open in East Windsor this spring.

The MCC Foundation is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) Connecticut corporation. It is governed by a volunteer board of directors, composed of business and community leaders. The board meets quarterly and lends its considerable expertise to the operations of the Foundation and the College’s development program.
