Cisco Donates Computer Hardware to MCC’s Computer Technology Program

Manchester, CT – (February 27, 2006) . . . Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, donated $45,829 in computer networking and wireless hardware to Manchester Community College. The donation will be used by computer technology students to enhance their classroom training and hands-on experience in networking and security.

MCC currently has a strong Networking program and is growing its Network Security program. The donated equipment will improve the Firewalls classes, allowing students to do class projects on actual hardware, rather than in a simulated environment. In addition, students in wireless networking labs will be able to work on commercial grade devices, which will give them practical workplace experience.

The donation was arranged by MCC Associate Professor Russell Sabadosa. Manchester Community College offers Computer Networking Technology courses in a state-of-the art facility, enabling students to learn in an interactive comprehensive “real- work” environment. Students receive a broad background in the fundamentals of computer programming; solving problems with computers; the basics of computer architecture and organization; an understanding of the basics of computer operating systems and experience with the predominate computer network operating systems. Each student obtains the training and experience required to transfer to a baccalaureate institution or succeed in entry level computer-based industry positions.
