CCRI Scores Three in Eighth Inning to break 1-1 Tie
Cougars Lose Fifth Straight; Scanlon Gives Cougars a Chance with Strong Outing

MANCHESTER – CC of Rhode Island (15-5) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 6-4 victory over Manchester CC (5-15) Wednesday afternoon.

Mauricio Checo hit a one-out triple in the top of the inning and scored the go-ahead run on a Justin Rainville’s single. Thomas Gavitt (Stonington) broke the game open with a two-run double that plated Rainville and Jamale Horn, who had CCRI’s third of four consecutive hits in the inning. Both teams scored twice in the ninth inning.

MCC starter Adam Scanlon (South Windsor) left the game with one out and two on in the eighth inning and took the loss. Scanlon (0-3) was charged with four runs, all earned, gave up five hits, struck out four and walked four. Reliever Chris Peralta picked up the win for CCRI with two innings of work.
Rainville was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. He scored CCRI’s first run from second base on a deep fly ball to right field in the fourth. Garrett Dacunto (Meriden) reached base four times for MCC with three walks and an RBI single. Kevin Madera (Newington) and Alec Brown (Montville) had RBIs in the ninth when MCC strung together four singles, leading to a pair of runs off CCRI’s Rodger Lincoln.
