CCRI Deals MCC a 5-1 Loss; Rataic Makes 2010 Pitching Debut

MANCHESTER – CC of Rhode Island starter Dennis Mederios scattered three hits over seven innings to beat Manchester CC 5-1 in Manchester CC Thursday afternoon. Justin Quinn was 3 for 3 with a double, a stolen base and three runs scored for CCRI (13-5).

Taylor Riley (Simsbury) drove in the lone MCC (14-12) run with a sacrifice fly after Alec Brown (Groton) led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple. Three of MCC’s four hits were for extra bases. A. J. Silberman (Meriden) led off the top of the first with a double, Adam Scanlon (South Windsor) doubled to lead off the eighth and the Brown triple.

MCC starter Kevin Wodatch (Wallingford) took the loss despite pitching well over the first five innings. The righthander gave up five hits and allowed just one run (earned) and left with a 1-0 deficit. The Knights scored three times in the seventh and added an insurance run in the ninth.

A. J. Rataic (East Hartford) made his pitching debut for the Cougars with a scoreless sixth inning against his former team. The 2008 East Catholic graduate was 7-0 for CCRI in 2009, including a victory over MCC in Rhode Island. Ryan Carroll (Newington) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Cougars.
