Cange, Gregor and Morehouse Named NJCAA All-Americans
MCC Men’s soccer player Jemmy Cange was named to the NJCAA Division III All-American First team while his teammate Jeff Gregor was name to the second team. Nicole Morehouse of the MCC Women’s soccer team was named to the NJCAA Division III All-American First team.
Cange, a sophomore forward from Norwich, led all Division III players in scoring this fall with 31 goals and 12 assists, rewriting the MCC record book along the way. The 31 goals are now a single season benchmark at the school and his career totals of 47 goals and 117 points are also school records. Cange scored all three MCC goals in regulation during the District 3 Championship game, a 3-3 tie with then #1 Suffolk County on November 1st, then added another in the Penalty Kick round as MCC moved on to the National Championship Tournament.
Gregor, a sophomore goalkeeper from Newington, allowed just 11 goals over 20 games (1200 minutes) this fall with a 0.825 GAA. Gregor had a hand in 13 of the team’s 14 shutouts, including back-to-back zeros in the Region XXI Tournament. Gregor made 24 saves over 110 minutes in the District 3 Championship game, then turned back three of four shots in the Penalty Kick round, helping to send his team to compete for the NJCAA Division III National Championship to Dallas, Texas Nov 8-9.
Morehouse, a sophomore goalkeeper from Tolland, helped lead to the MCC women to their best all-time record and first ever appearance in a Region XXI Division III Championship game. The Cougars started the 2008 season with ten straight wins and finished with 16-3 record including 11 shutouts. Morehouse made 96 saves and allowed just 11 goals over 1145 minutes for a 0.865 GAA. The co-captain also contributed to the team’s success with three goals – including a dramatic game winner in a 3-2 victory over Massasoit – and a pair of assists.
All-New England Teams
Cange, Gregor and Morehouse were also named to their respective All-Region (New England) XXI First teams.
Freshman Mariusz Kurzatokowski (Southington) was also an NJCAA First Team selection while Joe Danso (West Haven) and Austin Fetzer (Hebron) were named to the second team. Jason Walker (Windsor) was an Honorable Mention.
Morehouse was joined on the first team by teammates Julia Connor (Ellington), Brittany Finger (Enfield) and Shelly Muratori (Enfield). Angeline Chiang (Granby) and Amy Griswold (Ellington) were second team selections.
