Calling All MCC Grads: Alumni Association Sends an Open Invitation to Former Students for Homecoming Activities
Whether you are a recently minted alumnus from the Manchester Community College Class of 2014, or you graduated with the college’s first class 50 years ago, MCC’s Alumni Association wants you back. MCC Homecoming events will kick off Thursday, November 20, with a social hour at Corey’s Catsup & Mustard restaurant located at 623 Main Street, Manchester. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., alumni and their guests can enjoy complimentary appetizers and discounted drink specials.
On Friday, November 21, the Alumni Association is sponsoring a gathering to celebrate the Manchester Road Race. A Manchester tradition for 78 years, this is the first time that an exhibit featuring the history of the race will be on display. The event will be held at MCC’s downtown facility, MCC on Main, located at 903 Main Street, Manchester, from 7 to 9 p.m. Jim Balcome, Race Director, will be joined by Whitey Jenkins, an MCC alumnus and curator of the exhibit along with a Manchester Road Race archivist. Together, they will provide a presentation on the history of the road race and the exhibit on display in the gallery. The evening will conclude with live music and refreshments.
Homecoming festivities wrap up with the event that has become a tradition – the Homecoming Dinner – Monday, November 24, 2014, in the Culinary Arts Center on the main campus. The event will feature a wine reception starting at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Alumni of all ages are encouraged to attend and reconnect with classmates, faculty and staff.
Since opening its doors in 1963, tens of thousands of students have enrolled in credit courses at MCC. Some took one or two courses. Others took courses and transferred. Still others completed a certificate or associate degree. Estimates are that there are more than 25,000 former MCC students.
The college is attempting to reconnect them with the new MCC Alumni Association. All graduates of MCC shall be considered Alumni Association members, and anyone who has not graduated from MCC but has attended the college and completed a minimum of nine credits may request membership. There is no charge to join the Alumni Association.
“The Alumni Association is all about involvement, collaboration, and re-connecting with our former students,” said Diana Reid, development associate at MCC. “We want to build lifelong relationships with our alumni and help connect them to current students who could learn from their experiences.”
She added, “Our mission is to support the initiatives and mission of MCC and meet the changing needs of our diverse alumni. We want their input on programs and services they may be interested in so we can help them along their journey to success.”
Reid urges any former MCC student to contact her and “share their story” about where their MCC education took them. For more information, visit the alumni page.
MCC alumni can also contact Reid by email: dreid@manchestercc.edu. When on campus, alumni are encouraged to drop by the MCC Development office in the Student Services Center, second floor, room L202.
