“Beer, Burgers & Managing Your Bucks” Advice on Buying a First House or Condo
Manchester, CT (December 31, 2013)… On Wednesday, January 8, “Beer, Burgers & Managing Your Bucks” – a series of monthly networking and money-management gatherings for young adults at MCC on Main in Manchester – will start the new year off with some guidance for younger first-time home buyers.
“Obviously, purchasing a first house or condo can be a big decision and a major financial commitment,” explains Marcie LaBelle, coordinator of the series. “Feedback from participants at our prior events told us that this is a subject many young people want to learn more about.”
The evening’s guest speakers will include Edward Fournier, Branch Manager at Connecticut Home Mortgage in Glastonbury, and Catherine Chevalier, an attorney at LaBelle, LaBelle & Naab in Manchester.
Among the topics they’ll discuss are how to determine if you’re ready to get into the housing market and how to figure out how much house you can afford to buy. They’ll also familiarize attendees with mortgages, the financing process and the legal “lingo” found in real estate contracts.
“We have two excellent presenters,” says LaBelle, “who are very knowledgeable about the home-buying process. Attendees will find this a relaxed, unintimidating way to get familiar with the basics and get their specific questions answered. They’ll also get to enjoy a sampling of handcrafted beer from Firefly Hollow, a Bristol-based brewery, as well as sliders from Corey’s Catsup & Mustard burger bar.”
January 8’s event starts at 5:15 PM at MCC on Main, 903 Main Street, Manchester. The first half will be devoted to networking, beer sampling and sliders. The second half will feature the presentation. Admission is $5 at the door. For information call 860-647-6030.
