Art Lecturer Honored for Years of Service

Manchester, Conn. – (July 14, 2010) . . . David Bodlak has taught art history and drawing at MCC for 17 years, inspiring hundreds of students and colleagues through his work and his teachings. In recognition of his service and dedication to the art profession, Bodlak, of North Windham, was recently honored with the naming of a drawing studio at MCC. The David Bodlak Drawing studio is located in the Arts, Sciences and Technology building, room D109.
More than 70 people gathered to pay tribute and acknowledge the work and contribution of David Bodlak. Bodlak is a lecturer in Arts and Humanities and received a master of fine arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. He has exhibited his work in galleries, universities and museums in the US and in Europe. From 1972 through 1992, Bodlak lived and worked in Spain, where major exhibitions of his paintings and drawings were presented throughout Andalucia, and in the cities of Granada, Toledo and Madrid.
“Art is not something you do on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and it is not a career; art is a way of life as essential as breathing,” stated Bodlak. “I try to share with my students my own strong commitment to art; hopefully the students with whom I am privileged to work will come to understand art as an enhancement of their own lives on every level of their endeavors and achievements. I am so proud to be part of MCC; this has been the finest place I ever taught.”
The Visual Fine Arts program at MCC offers a transfer-oriented course of studies that leads to enrollment in an art school or other baccalaureate institution. Careers in commercial art, art education and fine arts are open to graduates with bachelor’s degrees. The Visual Fine Arts program also serves as a cultural catalyst, offering exhibitions, artist’s talks, faculty lectures and cultural programs.
