Anne Hebebrand Named Outstanding Art Educator
Manchester, CT – (July 12, 2012) . . . The Connecticut Art Education Association recently announced its 2012 state award winners for significant contributions to the field of arts education. Among them was Glastonbury resident Anne Hebebrand, an art teacher at Great Path Academy and adjunct faculty member at Manchester Community College, who was named “Outstanding Secondary Art Educator.”
Throughout her teaching career, Hebebrand, has taught art to students from kindergarten through college, and is a much beloved and well-respected member of the faculty. In her nomination letter, Patricia Carrigan, Instructor of Drawing at MCC, highlighted Anne’s unique combination of both artist and art educator.
Having observed Hebebrand on countless occasions within the studio classroom, Carrigan stated, “Anne is patient, professional, forthright and compassionate to her students at all times. She is tenacious in demanding excellence of herself and her students and is well-versed in all areas of her field addressing historical, critical and theoretical concerns to college and high school students alike.”
“Most importantly, Anne believes that a successful artist and art educator is one who continues to challenge themselves within their own work, always striving to learn from and along with her students and never demanding more of her students than what she would demand of herself,” Carrigan wrote.
Brenda Lopez, Senior Manager of Educational Programs at The Bushnell, stated in her nomination letter, “Anne Hebebrand is an outstanding educator, visual artist and mentor. Her love of teaching art is evident, not matter what age she is working with.”
An awards dinner was held at St. Clements Castle in Portland to celebrate the achievements of the outstanding arts educators. The Connecticut Art Education Association represents Connecticut arts educators and administrators as the state’s professional visual arts education organization. State level winners may participate in a national awards program.
Great Path Academy, a middle college high school established in 2002, is a magnet school. It offers students an educational experience that bridges the gap between high school and college by providing opportunities to enroll in college classes.
