MCC Students Win at Business Program Competitions
MANCHESTER, Conn. (May 23, 2019) – Students in the Manchester Community College Accounting, Business and Marketing degree programs recently came out winners in two separate competitions: the Connecticut Intercollegiate Business Plan Competition and the Connecticut Community College Elevator Pitch Competition, Northern. In both competitions, MCC’s student teams were mentored by MCC Professor Theresa Janeczek, department chair.
In the Elevator Pitch Competition, Tom Almy, of Wethersfield, won a first-place prize of $250. Chase Arnold, of East Hampton, won a second-place prize of $150. The third-place prize of $100 went to Elsa Coko, of Wethersfield.
Sixty-two student teams from across the state competed in the Connecticut Intercollegiate Business Plan Competition. MCC’s team – comprising Arnold; Bridgette Stepule, of Glastonbury; and Coko – went up against 17 institutions that included other community colleges, as well as Fairfield University, UConn, the University of Hartford, University of New Haven, Wesleyan University, Yale and other major business-school competitors. MCC’s team placed second, a $250 prize.

Arnold, Coko and Stepule will graduate next week. Arnold and Coko plan to attend the University of Connecticut, and Stepule will transfer to Northern Vermont University.
Other MCC students competing included Hakeem Badiru, of Windsor, who will transfer to UConn; along with Edward Ramirez Cahuana, of Hartford, and Rakeish Richards-Allen, of Windsor, both of whom will continue at MCC this fall.
