Manchester Community College Announces Events for April

MANCHESTER, Conn. (March 27, 2019) – A lot is happening at Manchester Community College for the month of April.

Economic Impacts and Challenges of Connecticut’s Agricultural Industry. Monday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium. Open House. Tuesday, April 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Great Path Academy Gym. The Open House will provide information on over 80 certificates and degree programs offered at MCC as well as special workshops on financial aid, admissions and other programs. Library Book Sale. Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Raymond F. Damato Library, Learning Resource Center. Textbooks, fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, DVDs and CDs will be available for purchase to benefit the library fund managed by MCC Foundation. Edgar Kunz Poetry Reading. Wednesday, April 10, 8 to 9 p.m., Community Commons, GPA. Raised in Manchester and a graduate of MCC, Edgar Kunz is author of the poetry collection Tap Out (Mariner / Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). His work has been supported by fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the MacDowell Colony, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Vanderbilt University and Stanford University, where he was a Wallace Stegner Fellow. Human Library. Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, from noon to 3 p.m., Raymond F. Damato Library, Learning Resource Center. Connect one-on-one with others to share unique sets of life experiences, stories and knowledge to promote values of tolerance and understanding. “Human Books” will be checked out by readers for conversations in the library to celebrate our differences, break down barriers, encourage new ideas and strengthen the community. 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows, 2019. Thursday, April 11, from 12:30 to 3:20 p.m. and Friday, April 12, 6 to 9 p.m., SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium. Presenting 16 exceptional and inspiring animated shorts from around the world. The works in this year’s show have a special resonance, presenting compelling ideas about individuals’ place in society at a time of social instability and issues. The Big Draw Community Arts Event. Thursday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., D-E Art Hallway, Arts, Sciences and Technology Center. There will be large sheets of paper mounted on the hallway walls throughout the Visual Fine Arts department, and all drawing materials are provided. No prior drawing experience required. Common Read Guest Speaker – Author Wes Moore: A Keynote Address and Q and A. Thursday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium. Wes Moore, author of the 2018-19 Common Read selection, The Other Wes Moore, will talk about the importance of mentorship and education. He will take questions from the audience about the book. Evening of Fine Food and Friends. Friday, April 26, from 7 to 10 p.m., Student Services Center. A cabaret-themed evening of entertainment, delicious hors-d’oeuvres and desserts, silent auction and silent wine auction, raffles, wine pull, music and dancing.
