“The Iceberg Portraits” Graphic Design Internship Show – Opening Reception to be Held November 15

MANCHESTER, Conn. (October 29, 2018) – The Graphic Design program at Manchester Community College will hold an opening reception for the exhibition, “The Iceberg Portraits,” a graphic-design internship show on Thursday, November 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition and reception will be in the C-D hallway beside the Hans Weiss Newspace Gallery in the SBM Charitable Foundation Building. The exhibition will run from November 8 through December 4.

It is being staged in collaboration with Dyshann Anderson from Aquastone Graphic Arts & Print, where the student artists, Sarah Beth Norris and Maria Shaer, did 150-hour internships last spring. Anderson, Norris and Shaer will be on hand to discuss the work.

The “Iceberg Portraits” are inspired by the “theory of omission” – a turn of phrase used to describe Ernest Hemingway’s style of journalism, in which he focused on immediate events with little context or interpretation. Anderson experimented with the minimalist technique in illustration and design with clients. The exhibition is designed to inspire and challenge graphic art students to rethink techniques and to bring awareness to new possibilities in art, advertising and design.

Academic credit is awarded for cooperative education and work experiences under the supervision of department faculty.
