MCC to Hold Information Sessions for Various Fall 2018 Programs
MANCHESTER, Conn. (June 7, 2018) – A variety of program information sessions for anyone interested in enrolling at Manchester Community College to start in Fall 2018 will be held between Tuesday, June 12, and Wednesday, August 15.
Scheduled times are designed for convenience to provide information on these MCC programs:
- Veterinary Assistant
- Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management
- Advanced manufacturing
- Phlebotomy
- Pharmacy Technician
- Certified Nursing Aid
- Emergency Medical Technician

June 12, 6-7 p.m. – Veterinary Assistant
Veterinary assistants provide support to veterinarians and other veterinarian staff by assisting with animal care, filling prescriptions, maintaining exams rooms, setting up lab work and updating medical records. MCC’s program has been accredited by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and upon successful completion of this two semester program our students can sit for the NAVTA certification exam.
June 20, 5-6 p.m.; July 25, 3-4 p.m.; August 15, 5-6 p.m. – Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management
MCC’s Culinary Arts and Foodservice Management associate in science degree programs have been granted exemplary status by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF). Graduates from this program may apply to the American Culinary Federation (ACF) to become a certified cook, a nationally recognized certification
June 21 and July 10, 4-5 p.m. – Advanced Manufacturing
This program is designed to provide students with a valuable skill set in just six months. Students who complete the program are qualified for an entry-level position as a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine operator. Those who complete the program earn both a non-credit certificate as well as up to 30 credits that can be applied toward an associate degree in Technology Studies
August 7, 6-7:30 p.m. – Phlebotomy
A certified phlebotomist collects and prepares blood specimens for analysis. This course includes classroom lecture and a clinical rotation at Eastern Connecticut Health Network facilities in the Manchester area. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification exam.
August 13, 6-7:30 p.m. – Pharmacy Technician
The pharmacy technician prepares medications under the direction of a pharmacist and may measure, mix, count, label and record amounts and dosages of medications. This comprehensive 60-hour course prepares students for an entry-level position in a community hospital, long-term care setting, or pharmacy and is an excellent review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) national certification exam.
August 14, 6-7:30 p.m. – Certified Nurse Aid
A certified nurse aide (CNA) job puts graduates on the front lines of patient care and works under the supervision of a nurse to help patients with daily living tasks. The CNA program includes classroom and clinical instruction where students learn about basic nursing skills, anatomy, physiology, nutrition and infection control. In the clinical setting, students work with patients at a long-term care facility to gain hands-on experience.
August 15, 6-7:30 p.m. – Emergency Medical Technician
The emergency medical technician (EMT) is a first responder that is on the scene in the event of accident or illness. An EMT must assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, extricate trapped individuals and transport injured or sick people to medical facilities. This course prepares students to sit for the initial State of CT Certified EMT examination and national board certification, which is a primary qualification for EMT personnel.
