MCC Art Students Receive Scholarship from Hartford Art School

Manchester, Conn. (May 11, 2017) – MCC Visual Fine Arts student Aaron Burleson and MCC alumna Judy Konopka ’15 each received a merit scholarship for $22,000 over the course of four years from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford.

Burleson, a resident of Glastonbury, who is graduating from MCC in May, is a photography major who will be continuing toward a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography and possibly a minor in art history. He is grateful to receive the scholarship for the upcoming semester and credits his experience at MCC with being prepared to succeed at University of Hartford. “I’m grateful for my experiences at MCC because coming here for an education was cost effective and the professors really love what they do,” he said.

Konopka, a resident of Middletown, who will also be starting at the Hartford Art School in the fall, graduated from MCC as a graphic design and photography major. For her bachelor’s degree she will be majoring in printmaking and painting. “Hartford Art School professors love MCC because they know the students are well prepared to transfer in terms of course curriculum and professional abilities. I am grateful to be able to have obtained a solid education from MCC,” she said.

Professor Daniel Long, Visual Fine Arts program co-chair at MCC, says he is happy to see a successful relationship between the community college’s art students and University of Hartford. “The Hartford Art School continues to be a good neighbor, welcoming and generous to our students,” he said. “We have a great relationship in terms of them keeping a look out for our promising art students.”
