MCC to Offer New Credit-Free Photo and Digital Imaging Courses in December

Manchester, Conn. (November 29, 2016) – Manchester Community College offers two new credit-free courses, “MCC Campus Photoshoot” and “Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop: Designing Print and Digital Documents,” as part of its Fall 2016 catalog.

“MCC Campus Photoshoot” will meet December 7 and December 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. each session. The course fee is $75 (refer to CRN 31780 to register). Students will use the MCC campus to photograph anything that catches their eyes, beginning with a review of basic photography, camera operation and picture composition, followed by plenty of allotted time to photograph. They will also take part in a critique for some of the images. The instructor, professional photographer Peter Glass, will also touch upon some simple digital editing tips in Photoshop. This course is for all skill levels, but students should have a working knowledge of a camera.

Glass has operated Peter Glass Photography for more than 25 years, with specialties in portrait, editorial, corporate and stock photography.

“Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop: Designing Print and Digital Documents” will meet December 9 and December 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each session. The course fee is $199 (refer to CRN 31504 to register). Students will focus on intermediate techniques and the process of creating digital assets for use in print, digital print and interactive deployment. They will develop digital assets for use in multi-page catalogs, books, interactive digital pages for use on the internet and digital print, and will also use a wide variety of tools available to construct graphics, logos and typesetting under the guidance of Jennifer Gutterman, who teaches both credit and non-credit courses at MCC. The prerequisite is “Adobe InDesign CC: Introduction,” or equivalent experience. Students may also request permission of the instructor or computer coordinator to take this course.

Gutterman is an assistant professor in the Game Design, Multimedia and Graphic Arts department. She holds an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
