MCC Foundation to Launch Capital Campaign with “Passport to MCC” Event, September 23

MANCHESTER, Conn. (September 12, 2016) – Manchester Community College Foundation and the college faculty, staff, students and supporters will come together Friday, September 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. for a special “Passport to MCC” event  launching Campaign 2020, the foundation’s first-ever capital campaign, with a goal of $14 million.

The kick-off activities will close with a champagne toast and dessert. The event will feature a celebration of the naming of the Raymond F. Damato library and Learning Resource Center, honoring Raymond “Sonny” Damato, who in 2014 bequeathed MCC its largest gift ever — some $6 million from his estate — which put MCC Foundation well on its way to meeting the Campaign 2020 goal.

“We are excited and pleased to celebrate the dedication of MCC’s educational facilities with the Damato family and the community,” said MCC Foundation President Michael B. Lynch Jr. “This generous donation of Mr. Damato’s estate is the largest single gift we have received in our history, and it helps our students, faculty and staff continue to dream big as they pursue an education at MCC. What a great start to Campaign 2020.”

Other highlights will include ribbon cuttings for MCC’s new state-of-the-art manufacturing center and radiation therapy lab.

During the event, the public is invited to “travel the world of MCC” and experience the diverse educational opportunities offered by the college. In addition to tours of the college, attendees will hear from industry experts, experience cutting-edge educational technology and get an inside look at programs and learning tools that have an impact on Connecticut and its future economic growth.

Activities will begin with registration in the SBM Charitable Foundation building rotunda, where complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served as part of a networking meet-up with industry and community leaders. Guests will pick up their MCC passports and then have the opportunity to tour key Campaign 2020 priority areas, including the Health Careers Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Therapy labs, as well as Manufacturing and Technology, and Hospitality and Culinary Arts facilities.

Throughout campus buildings, there will be student demonstrations of breakthrough virtual radiation therapy simulation equipment, which no other college program in the area has; mock crime scenes staged by Criminal Justice students; student art and ceramics demonstrations; sampling of fare prepared by culinary students; and musical entertainment by MCC choral students.
