MCC Credit-Free Programs Offers Basic Rider Motorcycle Course
Manchester, Conn. (August 1, 2016) – Manchester Community College’s Continuing Education division has openings in the Basic Rider Motorcycle Course. Motorcyclists must complete a course like this in order to qualify for a license in the state of Connecticut.
Students who successfully complete the course will have a waiver electronically sent to the DMV. The waiver exempts the student from having to take the on-cycle skills test for motorcycle licensing. The knowledge skills portion and appropriate fees of the DMV license are still required.
The course at MCC, which is approved the by the DMV, is designed to help individuals with little or no riding experience, as well as those with some riding experience, to achieve a better understanding of what is involved in operating a motorcycle. Students will begin with development of the fundamental riding skills of turning, shifting and braking, and expand these basic skills into more advanced street-riding techniques. “You will gain skills in riding to build your self-confidence and increase your safety on the road,” said Joe Snow, lead instructor and MCC site manager.
The next course opening is August 18 (CRN 20631), and courses run weekly through October. Students must have a valid driver’s license or a motorcycle learner’s permit. Students less than 18 years old must a waiver signed by a parent or guardian in order to take the class. Instructors are trained by the Department of Transportation Division of Highway Safety. The course fee is $220.
