Manchester Community College to Host Its Own “College Goal Sunday” Event on Saturday, January 30.
Manchester, Conn. (January 25, 2016) – Manchester Community College will participate in the national College Goal Sunday (CGS) drive with an on-campus event January 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the SBM Charitable Foundation Building.
Typically held on Sundays, CGS was established to provide participants with free, hands-on assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some community colleges, including MCC, are hosting events on Saturday for the convenience of students and their families, who will walk away with the satisfaction of knowing they have accomplished one of the biggest steps in getting ready to go to college.
The program is designed to assist prospective college students and their families in completing the FAFSA. Financial aid administrators and other volunteers offer this service at no charge. In addition to receiving assistance in filling out the FAFSA, participants will receive general information regarding state and federal financial aid programs.
“For many college-bound students and their families, navigating the financial aid process can be one of the most complicated steps in preparing for a post-secondary education,” said Ivette Rivera-Dreyer, director, financial aid for MCC. “The goal is to increase the enrollment of students who, without financial aid, would not be able to afford college.”
CGS is an effort by thousands of volunteers from across the United States who will come together on a Sunday afternoon in January with the common goal of making sure that the process of applying for financial aid does not become an obstacle that would keep any person from pursuing an education beyond high school.
