MCC Offers Courses to Make Holiday Cooking Scrumptious

Manchester, Conn. (October 29, 2015) –Students looking for inspiration to re-invigorate their holiday table this season can take a credit-free cuisine course at MCC. Instructors are experienced chefs who take home cooking to the next level, allowing students the opportunity to showcase the skills learned in time for holiday gatherings with friends and family.

Chef Lise Jaeger will offer the course, “Pie Workshop” on Saturday, November 14, from 12:15 to 4 p.m. The pastry line-up includes classic fall flavors such as pear, squash, apple and pumpkin and the unique addition of grape pie. Students can expect to leave class with a beloved crust recipe that can be used for years to come, along with instruction for single, double and lattice crust preparation. The holidays wouldn’t be the same without the abundance of cookies making appearances in platters, tins and holiday dessert buffets. The course, “Holiday Cookies,” with Rebecca Brown comes just in time for parties and office swaps on Thursday, December 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. Students can expect a variety of cookie recipes to practice and taste in this class. Food is often complimented by an alcoholic accompaniment. With such a variety of options, purchasing wine for your guests can be a confusing process. The course, “Wines from the America’s: North vs. South,” will be held on Friday, November 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to taste a variety of wines for comparison from the northern and southern regions of the America’s in a fun environment compete with munchies and the guidance of wine connoisseur and instructor, Gene Spaziani. “Big Reds for celebrating the Holidays in a Big Way,” with instructor Rayona Hobbs will be held on Friday, December 11, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Explore bold flavor profiles made with a variety of grapes from continents across the globe.   Reference CRN 32006.

The course, “Buche de Noel (Yule Log),” on Saturday, December 12 from 9 a.m. to noon, will give students a center piece for the holiday table. Students will learn the secrets behind the chocolate sponge recipe, the rolling technique and how to create adorable meringue mushrooms and festive fondant sprigs of holly with the guidance of instructor Sofia Bilgrami.
