Umesh Vig Tapped for UConn Alumni Association Committee
Manchester Community College’s Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs Umesh Vig has been appointed to the Diversity and Opportunity Committee for the Alumni Association at UConn. Vig earned a master’s degree from the university in 2004.
The committee’s role within the Alumni Association is to advise the alumni board of directors on issues and opportunities relating to diversity throughout the organization, as well as to encourage the board to adopt an inclusive approach to programs, services and communications that embrace all alumni.
“I look forward to working with the board of directors to identify opportunities to involve diverse alumni in university and alumni groups, programs and services,” Vig said. “I am pleased and honored to have been asked to serve on this important committee.”
Vig has served in his current role at MCC since he graduated from UConn. He also holds a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi, India; and bachelor’s degrees in communications with a minor in sociology; and English, economics and philosophy from Eastern Connecticut State University and Guru Nanak Dev University in India, respectively. He is chair of the Commencement Planning committee, and also serves on numerous other committees at MCC, including the Division of Student Affairs executive council, Opening Day planning committee and Evening of Fine Wines planning committee. Vig is a member of the board of directors, has served as co-chair, and he is currently chair of the Asian Pacific American Coalition of Connecticut. He maintains several other professional affiliations and is the winner of a number of professional awards.
