EMT Program Offered at MCC
Manchester Community College offers an EMT Certification program beginning Monday, September 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. The course is completed in a total of 33 sessions, with a Monday and Wednesday 6 to 10 p.m. schedule, along with 6 Saturday classes from 8 am.-4 p.m. The course prepares students to sit for the initial State of CT Certified EMT examination and national board. Once certified, an EMT can apply for positions at fire and ambulance companies, the emergency room, and even some doctor’s offices.
The course will be taught by Andrew Hildebrand of CPR Training Professionals, LLC in South Windsor. He explains, “There is always a need for health-care professionals, especially as our national population ages. Over the next five years, the field is expected to grow to meet the demands of the public.” MCC’s EMT program is unique because of the 40-hour work clinical rotation portion of the program. Students have the opportunity to observe 2 twelve hour shifts on an ambulance and two eight-hour shifts in an emergency room as a part of the required clinical observation rotation.
“The clinical experience allows students time to develop relationships with the staff, gaining first-hand experience in the work environments they will apply once certified,” Hildebrand said.
