Manchester Community College to Hold Annual Open House

Manchester, CT – March 5, 2014 . . . Manchester Community College will hold its annual Open House on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the Great Path Academy Gymnasium on the MCC campus. The event is for new, returning, and transfer students, and their families.

The Open House will provide information on the college’s over 90 degree and certificate programs, as well as offer special workshops on admission and financial aid. Information will also be on-hand about the FIRST program, a cohort-designed program that includes additional support and a specialized orientation for those students who are attending college for the first time, plan to attend full-time, and who would like to graduate in two years.

Information about the college’s hundreds of online, hybrid and classroom courses will also be featured. Students interested in accelerated 8- and 12-week credit courses, as well as MCC’s summer program, can also talk to faculty and staff.

Future students interested in a career in the health and medical field should plan on attending one of the specialized workshops to be held at 4:30 p.m. during the Open House. They include sessions on the following programs: Dental Assisting, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, Therapeutic Recreation and the newly-introduced Radiologic Science degree, which will begin classes in the fall.

Other new programs being offered by the college and represented at the Open Hose include Computer Game Design (AS degree), Electronic Health Record Specialist (certificate) and Interpersonal and Organizational Communications (AA degree).

For those prospective students who might be interested in career-oriented programs that do not require a college degree, representatives from the Continuing Education division will be on-hand to talk about computer certifications; health careers, including emergency medical technician, certified nurse aide and veterinary assistant; personal fitness trainer certification; and precision manufacturing. Information about credit-free personal and professional development courses will also be available.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff and current students, as well as tour the campus. Information will be available about academic support services, internships and career services, transfer opportunities, and paying for college.

Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. Anyone who preregisters will be automatically entered to win an iPad mini; attendees may enter an additional ticket into the drawing. The individual whose name is selected must be present at the time of the drawing in order to win.
