MCC Credit-Free Programs Introduces Wine Course for Hospitality Professionals
Manchester Community College Credit-Free Programs this spring is introducing a course, “Foundations in Wine for the Industry Professional and Connoisseur,” for people interested in working in the wine industry, whether it be in service and management, or as a supplier representative or in a retail outlet.
The course starts Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A second session will be held on Saturday, March 8, during the same time period (for registration, refer to CRN 12236).
Brian Mitchell, director of wine and beverages for the Max Restaurant Group, is the instructor. Mitchell is a 20-year wine industry veteran with experience in tasting, recommending, and selling wines from around the world. He holds the Level 4 Diploma from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust and is a certified specialist in wine. Mitchell also has traveled extensively in world wine regions and has been teaching professional and private wine classes for many years.
The goal of the upcoming course is to build a solid foundation of wine knowledge for anyone considering a career in the wine industry. It is designed for everyone from server/bartender to sommelier, retail or trade representative, or for the serious wine enthusiast, who are interested in the basics of wine production, styles, regions, and service, and how to properly taste and assess wine like a professional.
Food and wine pairing, understanding the components of wine, and regional overview of major production regions, will be covered.
The course fee is $220, plus an $85 materials fee that covers wine-tasting for both sessions, payable to instructor at the beginning of the first class.
