Make and Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions at MCC

The best time is now to get ready for 2014 New Year’s resolutions, with a class at Manchester Community College (MCC).

The college’s Continuing Education Credit-Free Programs catalog offers a variety of fun personal enrichment courses to boost fitness and wellness for the New Year. Here are just a few examples:

Zumba® Gold: Back to Basics! – Anyone who wants to improve freedom of movement, loves Latin rhythms and enjoys international music will enjoy this course. Zumba Gold is an aerobic exercise program design for “newbies,” deconditioned exercisers, older adults and anyone who needs exercise modifications. Six Tuesdays, 1/14-2/18, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (refer to CRN #11763 when registering); course fee is $55. The instructor is Karen Chorney, a licensed Zumba Fitness, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Zumba in the Circuit, and Zumbatomic® instructor.

Cardio Kick-Boxing Workout – Anyone of any kick-boxing skill level can attend this class. Beginners follow along with the routine and learn from watching the instructor and more experienced students. There is no person-to-person contact, and no special uniform is required. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Ongoing classes begin Mondays and Wednesdays starting 1/6, from 7 to 8 p.m. (refer to CRN 11656 for registration), and there are also Tuesday and Thursday classes starting 1/7, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. (refer to CRN 11662 for registration); the course fee is $45 for eight sessions. There is a $5 equipment fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class. The instructors are Elaine Flaherty, a 2nddegree Black Belt and Joel Waldron, 6th degree Black Belt, and other instructors at the Academy of Martial Arts at 440 Oakland Street, where the course is held.

Yoga for All Levels – Yoga and meditation are life transforming practices, and Kundalini Yoga has been described as one of the most comprehensive styles to increase flexibility, clear the mind, relieve pain, trim the waistline, and promote a happy and healthy lifestyle. Each session includes a gentle energizing, rhythmic yoga practice, following by meditation and deep relaxation. . Eight Wednesdays, 1/29-3/19, 6-7:15 p.m. (refer to CRN 11752); course fee is $115. The instructor is Kay Lani LeBoulluec, Ph.D., from the University of Vermont, who is a certified yoga instructor, Reiki master and Qigong trainer. She is also certified in vibrational healing training with singing bowls.

MCC also offers online Credit-Free Programs courses in weight loss strategies and cooking low-fat meals.
