Credit-Free Instructor’s Professional Development Courses Focus on Preparation
MANCHESTER, Conn. – August 2 – Manchester Community College Instructor Beverly Salzman, M.B.A. and M.S. in psychology, brings her 20 years of business and executive nonprofit experience to several professional development courses offered by the MCC Continuing Education Division’s Credit-Free Programs.
A number of Salzman’s courses will be offered in the upcoming Fall 2013 semester, including a new offering, “Job Search and Workforce Readiness Skills” on Saturday, November 16, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the college’s downtown Manchester location, 903 Main Street (refer to CRN 31713). The fee is $95.
The course will focus on skills needed to get and keep a job, as well as how to prepare for the first day of work in a new position. While tips on how to conduct a job search will be included, Salzman will also provide insights to workplace ethics, attire, and professional behavior.
“In today’s tough job market, it is important to not only learn the best way to find and secure a new job, but how to be successful in that hard earned position. Students will learn or reacquaint themselves with the soft skills that are just as important as the technical skills to help them throughout their career to navigate the workplace,” Salzman said. Employers tell the college that these skills make a noticeable difference in the performance of their new hires.
Salzman will also teach “Superior Customer Service Skills” this fall, also at the MCC on Main location. Details can be found in the Fall 2013 Credit-Free Programs catalog, which is currently available online or via Facebook (search Manchester Community College Credit-Free Programs). It will soon be distributed to the homes of everyone who has been a Credit-Free Programs student in the recent past. It will also be distributed through local newspaper drops at subscribers’ homes and is available at many retail stores, restaurants and libraries throughout MCC’s 15-town primary service area. In addition, copies will be available at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, at the MCC Continuing Education kiosk on the lower level near Sears.
Salzman is also a professional grant writer who has written State, Federal and foundation grants for many human service organizations. She has taught “Grant Writing for Beginners” and “Grant Writing: Next Steps” at MCC since 2006. These courses are scheduled to be held this summer from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, August. 9 and Saturday, August10 respectively (refer to CRN 20745 and 20746), as well as in the fall. The fee is $90 for each.
