Manage a Better Retirement with MCC Courses

Now that the stock market is hitting record highs on a regular basis, it’s more important than ever for investors to know how to keep an eye on their portfolios, especially if they are retired or looking to retire soon.

Manchester Community College offers several courses through the Continuing Education Division’s Credit-Free Programs that help people do exactly that. Courses are taught by licensed financial services professionals, each with many years of experience in their field.

Courses coming up include “Stock Market Filters: Basic Technical Analysis,” which begins Monday, May 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the college campus, students can learn how to check and manage the fluctuating value of stocks on the stock market by creating custom filters, and using moving averages, oscillators, and other technical indicators. Free software, StockFetcher, available on the Internet will be used as the basic tool to identify patterns and study the movement of stocks in “plain English.” By the end ofthe course, students will be able to apply a variety of filters using StockFetcher to better monitor their investments. The course runs three consecutive Monday’s and the course fee is $99 (refer to CRN 12242 to register).

Other Credit-Free Programs courses to help manage retirement portfolios and issues include “The Retirement Income Age,” which meets Tuesday, May 7 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Students can learn what successful retirees do differently with the structure of their investments so that they can keep up with rising costs, reduce the risks of the market, and help ensure that their retirement savings outlives them, instead of the other way around. The course fee is $10 (refer to CRN 11937 to register).

On Monday, May 20, the college offers “Wealth and Well-Being for Individuals in Transition” from 7 to 9 p.m. In this workshop, students will be introduced to six aspects of personal and financial well-being: cash flow, net worth, family, vision, wellness, and security. Learn how to better understand strengths and weaknesses and tum challenges into successes. The course fee is $20 (refer to CRN 11892 to register).
