MCC Courtyards Get Facelift Thanks to PlantConnecticut 2012

Manchester, CT – (October 10, 2012) . . . On a rainy Wednesday a volunteer crew spent their day installing new landscaping in the courtyards at Manchester Community College as a part of the annual PlantConnecticut program.
The project, organized each year by the Connecticut Nursery & Landscape Association (CNLA), is designed to focus attention on the value of Connecticut-grown plants and encourage planting around the state, said Bob Heffernan, CNLA executive director.
Every year since PlantConnecticut first began in 1950, the nurserymen/women have picked a different nonprofit site around the state to do their complimentary planting and landscaping.
A volunteer crew of about 15 nursery/landscape workers from up to a dozen companies from all over Connecticut spent the day installing hundreds of plants in 20 different varieties outside the college buildings. Estimated value of the project exceeded $10,000. This year’s project was coordinated by is Bob St. Jacques, owner of Four Seasons Landscaping, Windsor.
The plants were donated by many of the state’s nursery growers. The production of plants and flowers is Connecticut’s biggest agricultural segment at over $1 billion annually. Connecticut’s
residents, because of their affluence, spend more per capita on flowers and plants than people of any other state. The Connecticut Nursery & Landscape Association represents more than 400 companies in the business.
Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College.
