WOMEN’S SOCCER
Springfield Technical CC 2 Manchester CC 1
The Cougars played their best game of the season, but Irena Curtain took control of a loose ball at midfield in the final minute of regulation and turned it into the game winner as Springfield Tech (3-5) beat Manchester CC (0-8) 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in Springfield.
Ashley Parke (Woodstock) gave MCC a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game but Emily LaFleur tied it at 1-1 in the 1oth minute. The teams played an even second half, with the goalkeepers taking turns shutting down offensive threats. MCC’s Danielle Hebert (Mansfield) made 16 saves while her counterpart, Amal Al-Mona made stopped 16 shots including two on breakaways late in the game.
“I am immensely proud of their effort today,” MCC head coach Jeremy Wilson said of his team on the bus ride back to Manchester. “They did everything I asked of them, but their progress was not rewarded today.”
The Cougars are idle until next Wednesday (Oct 3) when they visit Holyoke CC for a 4PM game.
