MCC Veterans Oasis Center Receives Grants from Hartford Foundation for Public Giving
Manchester, CT – (August 24, 2012) . . . The Veterans OASIS Center at Manchester Community College recently received two grants totaling $2,600 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
The funds from the Anonymous No. 46 Fund and the Morton and Dinah Danseyar Family Foundation Fund at the Hartford Foundation will be used to assist student veterans and service members experiencing financial hardship with academic supplies such as notebooks and flash drives. Students will also be provided with bus passes if there is a transportation need and receive assistance with the purchase of textbooks if they are without funds, or their stipend does not cover the total cost.
The OASIS Center (Operation Academic Support for Incoming Service members) is part of the college’s Student Affairs Division and offers a dedicated space on campus for veterans and military service men and women to network, socialize, study and share as they integrate into the college experience.
In 2012, the OASIS Center has served approximately 400 veterans and service members. The OASIS Center is a component of the Veteran Affairs Support Team, which ensures comprehensive support services are offered to MCC student veterans. Services include counseling, financial aid assistance and academic support, including tutoring. The center is located in the Lowe Student Service Center, and is completely furnished with computers, a study area, comfortable seating, and a mini kitchen. Applications for fund requests are located in the Veterans OASIS.
