New Members Named to MCC Regional Advisory Council

Manchester, Connecticut-(April 18, 2011)…The Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Community Colleges has voted to appoint two new members to the Manchester Community College Regional Advisory Council for two-year terms. The new members are Doreen Downham and Kevin Murphy.

Doreen Downham, a Manchester resident, was born and raised in Manchester and is an alumna of Manchester Community College. She has been employed by the ‘SBM Family’ for twenty five years, beginning with the Savings Bank of Manchester where she advanced to the position of Assistant to the President. After the bank was acquired, Ms. Downham transitioned to the SBM Charitable Foundation as its corporate secretary and was recently appointed as the Foundation’s executive director.

Kevin G. Murphy, a Vernon resident, is the Treasurer and Executive Vice President of Network/Business Development for the Eastern Connecticut Health Network. He completed his undergraduate degree at Iona College and is a graduate of Long Island University with a master of science degree. Mr. Murphy is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is a member of the Connecticut Hospital Association’s Committee on Finance, serves on the Glastonbury Advisory Board for Rockville Bank and is an advisory board member of the Hockanum Valley Community Council in Vernon.

The Connecticut Community College Board of Trustees appoints for each college a regional advisory council that works with and advises its President with respect to appropriate educational programs to meet constituent and community needs. The members of the council meet with the President and various college officers on a regular basis.

Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College.
