MCC Women’s Soccer Team Captures Program’s First NJCAA Region XXI Women’s Soccer Champions

It took three tries this season, but the Manchester Community College Cougars finally beat Holyoke Community College. And this time it was to win the NJCAA Region XXI Women’s Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon in Holyoke.

Sophomore Jenna Allison’s goals in the 5th and 14th minutes propelled the MCC Cougars to victory in a hotly contested final. Courtney Gideon (Fr., Griswold) made 9 saves for MCC, while Malynda Riopelle made 6 saves for Holyoke. It was Gideon’s 9th shutout of the season. Holyoke outshot Manchester 11-8 on the day; however, Manchester’s fast start made the difference. Holyoke ends their season 13-4.

With the win, Manchester improves to 10-7-1 and makes their first ever District Championship appearance, Saturday, October 29, 2011 hosted by the winner of the Region XV tournament – Nassau Community College (Garden City, NY) vs. Monroe College (New Rochelle, NY). This game is being played Wednesday, October 26, 2011. The winner of the District Playoff advances to the DIII Women’s Soccer National Tournament in Dryden, NY, November 3rd – 6th
