Director of Financial Aid Ivette Rivera-Dreyer Receives the 2010 Latino de Oro Award

November 29, 2010…Ivette Rivera–Dreyer, director of Financial Aid Services at Manchester Community College received the 2010 Latino de Oro award in Education for her active involvement with Hispanic youth and students, and for encouraging them to pursue a college education. The event was sponsored by Identidad Latina Hispanic Newspaper in Connecticut. Prior recipients of this very prestigious award have been Dr. Agnes Quinones, Consultant for CT. Department of Education, and Dr. Elsa Nunez, President, Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Latino de Oro Awards are designed to recognize men and women in the State that have made a significant contribution to the community and have shown outstanding achievement in their field. There were three nominees selected for each of ten different categories.

Ivette Rivera-Dreyer was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Connecticut in 1979. She received an undergraduate degree in Management and Business Administration from the University of Hartford in 1985 and a M.S. degree in Administration and Human Services from Springfield College in 1993.She joined MCC in 1997 as Director of Financial Aid. For the past five years she has been co-chair of the CT Association for Professionals in Financial Aid Early College Awareness Committee. In this role she has been in charge of planning programs and activities to expose young students and their families to early college planning. She is also a member of several local, regional and national professional associations.

Ivette Rivera-Dreyer said “This is a very important and impressive recognition in the Latino community and I am very honored to have received it”.
