MCC Beats STCC 2-1 To Qualify For Region 21 Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, MA – Miranda Hodge (Rocky Hill) scored in the 56th minute to give Manchester CC (5-6-1) a 2-1 victory over Springfield Technical CC (4-8) Wednesday afternoon.
Kristin Pearson (Coventry) scored MCC’s first goal with an assist from Gina DiPrato (Suffield). Michelle Kerr (Rockville) made seven saves for the Cougars, who qualified for the Region 21, Division III tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
“We had a lethargic first half,” first year MCC head coach Jeremy Wilson said. “But we took control of the game in the second half.”
STCC’s Rebecca Dupuis scored 23 minutes into the game on a penalty kick. Pearson, who has been a key defender for Wilson, answered back with her first goal of the season off a DiPrato’s cross to send the game into to the half tied at 1-1.
“I’m proud of the girls,” Wilson said from a loud team bus. “I am proud of their effort in a difficult situation and played well when it counted.”
The Region 21 Tournament will be held at Holyoke CC October 23-24.
