MCC Breaks Two-Game Midweek Losing Streak with 17-2 Win
Allison, Lowers and Riley Hit Homers; Carroll Throws Complete Game
Thursday
WORCESTER, MA – Joey Allison (East Hartford) and A. J. Lowers (Newington) hit three-run homers and Taylor Riley (Simsbury) hit a solo blast as Manchester CC (22-17, 10-2) beat Quinsigamond CC (10-13-1, 6-4-1) 17-2 in a Region 21 division game Thursday afternoon in Worcester, MA. The mercy rule applied after five innings.
MCC starter Ryan Carroll (Newington) improved to 3-2 on the season. The right-hander went the distance, scattering six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Allison drove in four runs while Lowers and A. J. Silberman (Meriden) drove in three apiece as MCC snapped a two-game losing streak.
Wednesday
MANCHESTER – Down 7-6 with two outs in the ninth inning, Martin Iwasinski hit a three-run double to lift Holyoke CC (10-9-2, 5-2-1) to a Region 21, division win over Manchester CC (21-17, 9-2) Wednesday afternoon.
MCC took its first lead on a two-run single by Taylor Riley (Simsbury) in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Cougars the 7-6 advantage going into the ninth. Riley also had a two-out, RBI triple in the fifth inning.
Justin Thomas (East Lyme) had four strikeouts over two innings of relief, including the side swinging in the sixth.
Tuesday
MANCHESTER – UConn-Avery Point (22-7) scored four times in the top of the second inning and held off Manchester CC (21-16) for an 8-5 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Joey Allison (East Hartford) was 3 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI for MCC. Taylor Riley (Simsbury) was 2 for 3 with a double and pitched a perfect seventh inning.
