Cougars Split with CCRI on the Road; Wenz sharp in Game One Loss

WARWICK, RI – (March 20, 2010) Vin Sommo (Clinton) homered and drove in three runs as MCC (8-5) gained a split with CCRI (4-2) on the road with a 6-4 victory in the second game of a double header in Warwick, RI.

MCC starter Adam Scanlon (South Windsor) improved to 2-1 on the season. CCRI won the first game with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

2009 NJCAA All-American A. J. Lowers (Newington) hit a two-run homer in the first game and was 5 for 8 with five RBI on the day. In game one, Tyler Wenz (Ogdensburg, NJ) allowed just one run on two hits over five innings and Joey Allison (East Hartford) drove in a pair of runs for the Cougars..

“We played 14 innings of relatively clean baseball,” MCC coach Chris Strahowski said. “We got a lot of ground ball outs, the pitchers threw strikes and kept their pitch counts low.”
