Empty Bowls Meal and Annual Craft Fair To Be Hosted at MCC
Manchester, CT – (October 19, 2009) . . . To celebrate the fall season, Manchester Community College (MCC) has scheduled a day of events that will appeal to everyone.
Saturday, October 24, the 12th annual Foodshare Empty Bowls Project, the MCC Craft Fair and the MCC Farmers’ Market will be held at various locations on the college’s campus.
MCC and Foodshare are joining forces to take a stand against hunger with the 12th annual Foodshare Empty Bowls Project, beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is $15, and includes a handmade pottery bowl and a meal of unlimited soups and breads, desserts and beverages prepared by MCC culinary arts students and area restaurants. The pottery bowls are donated by MCC art students, local ceramic artists, community crafters and area schools.
Proceeds from the Empty Bowls Project will benefit Foodshare and its mission to educate and involve the community in finding real, long-term solutions to the problems of poverty and hunger. With every $10 raised by the Empty Bowls Project, Foodshare can distribute $100 worth of food to those people who experience “empty bowls” each year.
The day will also feature the MCC Craft Fair, which attracts crafters from throughout the region. The Craft Fair is free and will feature hand-made crafts, including clothing, furniture, jewelry and other original items.
The Craft Fair will be held in Lowe Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is sponsored by the MCC Alumni Association and the Manchester Art Association.
The MCC Farmers’ Market feature local farmers throughout the region. A variety of
fresh and organic items will be available for sale, including vegetables, fruits, herbs, a variety of plants, beeswax candles, soaps, honey, goat’s milk and goat’s cheese.
