MCC 6 BHCC 5 OT
Kristina Hahn (East Hampton) scored five minutes into overtime to lift Manchester CC over Bunker Hill CC 6-5 Saturday in Manchester.
Hahn’s initial shot hit the left post, but the rebound hit the back of Bunker Hill goalkeeper C.T. Rustin’s leg and caromed into the net. Rustin played an outstanding game in the BHCC goal, making 15 saves in a game that featured more passing and offense than defense.
“We had a lot of passing up top,” Sophomore Lindsay Estok said. “A lot of give and goes and we kept finishing.”
Estok (Middletown) had two goals and three assists as MCC snapped a three-game losing streak. Bunker Hill (0-2) battled back to tie the game three times and scored twice in the final ten minutes to force the overtime period. Enfield’s Michelle Magora and Ilyssa Riley and Katie Walls (East Hartford) also scored for the Cougars (3-4). Leny Benesia Alfaro had two goals for Bunker Hill.
“I like the way they responded,” MCC Head Coach Alex Calpa said of his team. “They stayed together and kept working and pulled it off in the end. They moved the ball when they had to.”
The game was tied at 2-2 at halftime, but MCC opened the second half with two quick goals by the co-Captains – Magora and Estok – to take a 4-2 lead. Estok’s second goal of the game made it 5-2, but Bunker Hill scored the last three goals in regulation to tie the game at 5-all.
MCC travels to Framingham, MA to play MassBay CC on Tuesday.
