MCC’s Julia Connor Named Academic All-American with Distinction
Manchester Community Women’s soccer player Julia Connor was named an Academic All-American with Distinction by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Connor leaves MCC after two years with a 3.92 GPA over 56 credit hours.
The 2007 Ellington High graduate was also a two-time All-New England selection as a defender and a key member of MCC Soccer Coach Alex Calpa’s 16-3, NJCAA Region XXI, Division III finalists in 2008. Connor helped anchor a defensive backfield that produced 11 shutouts.
“She is very hard working on and off the field,” Calpa said. “Julia’s expectations are a little higher – she set the bar high for the other players and I’m very proud of her. It’s going to be hard to replace her, but I’m very happy to have had her on my team for those two years and wish her well in the future.”
Connor, who will continue her education at Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA) in September, scored six goals and assisted on five others as the Cougars enjoyed their most successful two-year run (25-10-1) in the program’s history. Connor works part time in the MCC Sports Information Department, Ellington Parks and Recreation and at Sportsworld in East Windsor.
Connor is the MCC Athletic Department’s first Academic All-American since baseball player Jason Banks of Stafford was tabbed in 2007.
