On the Road: Cougars win eighth straight road game Saturday
Weekend Update:
MCC Sweeps MassBay in Region 21, Division III action Saturday
Cougars eight-game road win streak ends on Sunday in Groton
The MCC baseball team won its eighth in a row – all on the road – after sweeping a double header from MassBay in Framingham, MA Saturday afternoon by 18-0 and 14-3 margins. The mercy rule ended both games after five innings.
Steve Simon (Middlefield) and Kevin Wodatch each tossed complete games. Simon (5-0) fanned six without walking a batter in MCC’s game one shutout victory.
Vin Sommo (Clinton) homered in each game for MCC, who improved to 9-2 in Region 21 play.
“Everyone had good swings, nothing cheap,” MCC Head Coach Chris Strahowski said after the 34 hit outburst in just 10 innings. “We hit it hard all day and where they weren’t. We were driving the ball to both gaps.”
On Sunday, MCC’s winning streak came to end in Groton when UConn-Avery Point beat the Cougars 11-3. MCC is 19-13-1 overall while NJCAA Division II UCAP improves to 25-7.
Nick Melino (Cromwell) was 2 for 4 with a double while Alan Fredriksson (Torrington) was 3 for 4 with an RBI on Sunday.
