MCC Women Win Regular Season Finale
MANCHESTER, CT – Shelly Muratori (Enfield) broke a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute as the Manchester Community College Women’s soccer team ended its regular season with a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire Tech in Manchester Wednesday afternoon.
Muratori broke down the right side after collecting a Betsy Whalen (Avon) feed and beat New Hampshire goalkeeper Bonnie Smith on the far side. Smith made eight saves for the visiting Lynx.
Lindsay Estok’s (Middletown) ninth goal, and third in as many games, gave MCC (15-2) a 1-0 lead 34 minutes into the game. Ali Bryan answered back for New Hampshire (6-8-1) four minutes into the second half and 17 minutes later, Muratori’s eighth goal of the year proved to be the difference.
“This was a good game for us,” MCC Coach Alex Calpa said after his team played for the last time at home in 2008. “They gave us a good battle and are always a pretty good team, which what we are going to see from here on out.”
The Cougars, who finished the season with a four-game winning streak, are the top seed in the NJCAA Region XXI Division III tournament and will face Springfield Tech in Holyoke on Saturday morning at 11 am in first round action. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at pm in Holyoke.
