MCC Women Throw Another Shutout
MANCHESTER, CT- Betsy Whalen (Avon) scored one minute into the game and again in the 65th minute as Manchester CC rolled over Springfield Technical CC 6-0 Thursday afternoon in Manchester. Shelly Muratori (Enfield) had a goal and two assists as MCC (10-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season 24 hours earlier.
Lindsay Estok (Middletown), Amy Griswold (Ellington0 and Christine Amat (Glastonbury) also scored. Nicole Morehouse (Tolland) and Ashlyn Gates (Manchester) each played a half in goal and combined for two saves. It was MCC’s seventh shutout of the season.
The Cougars, who lost to Division I CCRI (#11 in the October 8th NJCAA Poll) in Rhode Island on Wednesday, took 29 shots on goal to Springfield’s five.
After an 11 day layoff due to weather issues, the Cougars play five games in eight days. ‘It’s been a tough week, because we had a game on Wednesday, one today, then we have Saturday, Monday and Wednesday again,” MCC Coach Alex Calpa said after the game. “They are all division games that we need to win or it could get rough.”
