MCC Women Keep Winning Streak Alive at Five
MANCHESTER, CT – (September 14) The MCC women’s soccer team scored early and often Sunday afternoon, extending its season opening winning streak to five games with a 10-0 win over Bunker Hill CC at McCormick Complex. All five wins have come in Region XXI, Division III games.
Brittany Finger (Enfield) scored her first of four consecutive goals one minute into the game and the 5-0 Cougars never looked back. MCC built a solid 6-0 halftime lead when Chelsea Allen (Newington) and Nicole Morehouse (Tolland) followed Finger’s scoring binge with a goal each.
Finger added to her team leading point total with an assist on the game’s final goal, which was scored by Shelly Muratori (Enfield) on a breakaway, and now has nine goals and six assists for 24 points.
Lindsay Estok (Middletown), Amy Griswold (Ellington) and Liz Nahorney (Newington) also scored for the Cougars. Muratori and Betsy Whalen (Avon) each had two assists.
Morehouse and Kyle Roncaioli (West Hartford) shared a shutout for the third time this season with Roncaioli making a pair of second half saves. She also came out of the net to cut the angle down on a breakaway late in the game, forcing the shot wide and preserving the shutout. Through five games, the Morehouse/Roncaioli Goalkeeping tandem has allowed just one goal.
